Living and Dining:

Indoor Living
The great-room is a combination living/dining-room with a 40-foot ceiling. Huge glass doors can either open the room to cool ocean breezes or protect it from occasional inclement weather while preserving the view. The great-room boasts comfortable sofas and lounge chairs with good light for reading. The mezzanine above has a smaller seating area for more intimate gatherings.

Outdoor Living/Gardens
The covered pavilion with its cushioned rattan furniture is the social heart of Greatview, and most guests find themselves drawn there throughout the day. It’s a great place to enjoy the warmth of a Jamaican day with protection from the mid-day sun – drinking in the colour, birdsongs and fragrance of the adjoining terraced tropical gardens.

For sun-loving guests, the deck over the kitchen offers an opportunity to catch the last of the afternoon rays, while partial covering over the deck accommodates those who prefer shade. Amateur astronomers congregate here on clear nights to watch the stars through Greatview’s telescope.

Those who prefer a lounge chair by the pool have a choice of the upper teak deck by the main pool or the lower deck that flanks the smaller pool and hot tub, amidst royal palms and bougainvillea.

Dining
Most often, guests choose to dine in the covered pavilion around the circular glass table by the outdoor bar. With comfortable seating for 10 and a large rotating “lazy susan,” this is the perfect spot for informal family-style meals. A larger table seating 18 can be substituted. Because we believe that good food tastes even better on a beautifully set table, the most casual meals feel special at Greatview.

For more formal occasions, Greatview offers an indoor dining table which also accommodates 12 for a sit-down meal. Light from the exquisite chandelier plays off the fine crystal, china and sterling silver table settings. We can even arrange a 3-piece Jamaican band to provide dinner music!

Guests looking for quick snacks before heading out on adventures often enjoy eating at the kitchen counter and chatting with the cook.

Breakfast and Lunch
At Greatview we work hard to cater to your personal tastes. Plan your menu with the Chef from her extensive repertoire of fine international dishes and Jamaican specialties – which she can make as mild or as spicy as your tastebuds dictate. Or simply tell her what you like, and let her take care of the rest.

Start the day with Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, orange juice just squeezed in the kitchen, and some fresh local fruit, or enjoy a full sit-down breakfast. (The Chef suggests you try the traditional Jamaican ackee breakfast at least once during your stay!)

Gather again around the circular pavilion table for a multi-course lunch. If that sounds too strenuous, the staff will be happy to bring a sandwich to your favourite lounge chair. If you’re heading out on an adventure, take along a picnic.

Dinner
Dinner can be a leisurely elegant affair, an informal barbeque by the pool, or anything in between.

As the sun goes down, Greatview guests start to gather for cocktails, made and served by Aaron the butler from the pavilion bar. By dusk the candles are lit, the placemats laid (chosen from Greatview’s vast collection to suit the mood of the evening), and dinner begins – perhaps with one of the Chef's excellent home-made soups. Aaron pours a glass from Greatview’s collection of imported wines.

Main course might feature fresh local fish served with callaloo (a local green vegetable akin to spinach) or a roast rack of lamb accompanied by a vegetarian aubergine gratin. Linger at the table over dessert, coffee and liqueur, or drift back to the sofas to continue the conversation into the night.
